Exterior Colours
The following information is from a pre-launch brochure. Thank you to Robert Walden (BartonRover) for supplying it.
When the Rover 75 was launched there were 17 exterior body colours available. The first five are 'flat' colours whereas the other 12 are metallics and pearlescents. Additionally, Primrose, Old English White(OEW), Moonstone, British Racing Green(BRG) and Wedgewood were classified as "heritage" colours.
Primrose Yellow; Damson Red; Midnight Blue; Old English White; Raven Black;
British Racing Green; Moonstone Green; Pewter Grey; Wedgewood Blue; White Gold; Zircon Silver; Arden Green; Atlantic Blue; Copperleaf Red; Dorchester Red; Steel Blue; Tahiti Blue;
The brochure indicated that in the UK market the white was to be known as Arran White. However the launch white was certainly a nice creamy Old English White, and Robert understood that it went to Arran White (a much whiter white) with the move to Longbridge. Eventually it changed to Dover White (even whiter still).
Primrose was the first colour to be dropped but with the sale to Phoenix and move to Longbridge the range was much reduced. It is believed that BMW wanted to keep some colours for their new Mini range. Atlantic Blue,
Wedgewood Blue and Dorchester Red were other early casualties. Wedgewood Blue was kept as a name but the colour changed and became more pastel blue out of Longbridge. Copperleaf Red changed to Firefrost before the facelifted Mk II.
